B.Tech Electrical and Electronics Engineering (2014-18)

The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology, Palakkad was established right from the inception of the college, since July 2012. The department offers B.Tech Degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering approved by AICTE, New Delhi and affiliated to University of Calicut and Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University, Trivandrum. Electrical Engineering forms the application of the laws of Physics governing electricity, magnetism, and light to develop new technologies in helping mankind. The Electrical Engineering discipline has its esoteric side, with electrical engineers being involved in the generation, protection, transmission, distribution and application of electrical energy. However, on the mundane side, they are also involved in that aspect that lights our world. Many scientific fields depend on electrical engineers for their design, analysis and maintenance. Engineers who specialize in Electrical and Electronics engineering are concerned with the design and analysis of controllers, power converters that eventually help in obtaining the desired characteristics of electromechanical systems. Today, Electrical engineering has a wide reach in all spheres of technology.

Programme Outcomes

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology aims at the following Programme Outcomes:

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyse complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice

The department is associated with professional technical associations and societies such as IEEE and IETE, which allow the students to improve and update their technical knowledge and personality development.

IEEE

IEEE is the worlds largest professional association dedicated to advancing technological innovation and excellence for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE's highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IETE

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is Indias leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through various centres, whose number is 65, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.

Energy Management Club

The Energy Management Club is the hub for energy interest at Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology started in association with the Ahalia Centre for Energy & Environment. We enhance recruiting into the energy industry and hope to build a cross-border platform to exchange ideas and information about the latest energy developments in India and in the rest of the world, to discuss future trends and to deepen understanding of world energy markets. We offer insight into merchant energy, renewable energy and utilities. Our goal is to utilize the knowledge and efforts of today’s energy leaders to create the energy executives, entrepreneurs and policymakers of tomorrow.

The Electrical Machine Laboratory includes experiments on characteristics and behavior of the DC and AC Machines, efficiency test of transformers, synchronous and asynchronous machines and give them experimental skill, familiarize with the constructional details of different types, working principle and their performance. This lab consists of machines such as DC machine, induction motor, induction generator, alternators, synchronous motors etc. Well established with all kinds of motors, generators and latest drives, this is the core lab for the Electrical Engineering branch and the ancillary for ECE and Mechanical branches

Measurements and Instrumentation Lab

Measurements and Instrumentation Lab works in the area of measurements, sensors & signal conditioning and power system instrumentation. The laboratory is housed with various equipment like AC Bridges, DC Bridges, Instrumentation amplifier, Angular measurement module, Pressure measurement module, Displacement measurement module, Energy meter, CROs, Regulated power supply etc. This Lab provides a firm knowledge base in modern areas such as sensor mechanisms, data compression, and specialized opto-electronic sensor systems.

This laboratory is used to impart practical knowledge to the students about the different wiring schemes, familiarization of megger ,MCB and ELCB. This workshop is established with the basic tools, trainer kits and accessories. The workshop is very imperative not only for the students of Electrical Engineering branch but also for the students of other engineering branches and provides service to all 1st year students.

Advanced Electrical Engineering Lab

Advanced Electrical Engineering Lab

The aim of the laboratory is to provide sound knowledge in the basic concepts of linear control theory and design of control system, to understand the methods of representation of systems and getting their transfer function models, to provide adequate knowledge in the time response of systems and steady state error analysis, to give basic knowledge in obtaining the open loop and closed loop frequency responses of systems and to understand the concept of stability of control system and methods of stability analysis. It help students to study the compensation design for a control system.The design and implementation of control theory is done using MATLAB software to work out the experiments for open loop and closed loop systems. The lab is well furnished with MATLAB & PSPICE softwares, AC & DC servomotors, synchros, LVDT etc. to conduct various experiments for the EEE students.

Power Electronics Lab

Power Electronics Lab

The objective of the Power Electronics laboratory is to study the characteristics of switching devices and its applications in rectifier, inverter and choppers. It also acquaint with the application of electronic devices for conversion, control & conditioning of electric power. Further it aids the students to acquire an overview of different types of power semi-conductor devices and to cognize the operation, characteristics and performance parameters of controlled rectifiers, to study the operation, switching techniques, modulation techniques of PWM inverters and to comprehend the harmonic reduction techniques.

Embedded Systems Lab

Embedded Systems Lab

The Department of Electrical and Electronics established the Texas Instruments Lab in collaboration with STEPS Knowledge services Pvt.Ltd, Coimbatore. The lab is highly equipped with analog system lab starter kit(ASLK PRO) MSP 430 controllers,TIVA-EK launch pad and other sensors including ultrasonic sensor, PIR sensor, along with Arduino, Raspberry Pi boards.

Power Systems Lab

Power system Laboratory comprises of protection, simulation and machine related experiments. Facilities are available for overcurrent, under voltage and distance relays including different numerical relays. Varieties of Power system Simulation packages like Load flow, PSCAD and MiPower are available..

Project Competition

Aswin Sooraj R, Harikrishnan M, Adhith J, Mahesh C from second year EEE were Quarterfinalist who submitted a proposal entitled “Car Blackbox” to DST & Texas Instruments India Innovation Challenge Design Contest 2016, Anchored by IIM Bangalore.


The Project titled “PADATRANA” by Alexa Jose, Aravind M, M Vishnu Murali and Reshma R of final year EEE was awarded financial assistance during 60th Project Committee Meeting of KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment ) under the guidance of Dr. G Murugananth, HoD/ EEE


The Project titled “Sign Language Interpretation for deaf and dumb" by Sreeparvathy V and group of final year EEE was awarded financial assistance during 60th Project Committee Meeting of KSCSTE (Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment ) under the guidance of Dr. G Murugananth, HoD/ EEE and Mr. A Manickavasagam, AP/EEE.


One of our final year students project was selected in the first round of project competition by National Instruments. The project titled MEGOBOT which is a GSM controlled robotic system for monitoring health parameters like temperature,blood pressure and heart beat.

Energy club inauguration

      Energy Management club of Ahalia School of Engineering and Technology along with the Ahalia Centre for Energy & Environment, was inaugurated by Prof.V.K.Damodaran, FIE, Life Senior Member IEEE(NY),Director (R&D and Trg.), Team sustained Ltd, Kochi. The function started off by 9.30am on 12/09/2018, Wednesday at ASET seminar hall with a prayer. Presidential address was delivered by Dr.B.G.Vishnuram, Principal of ASET.Further, Dr.P.R.Sree Mahadevan Pillai ,Director of Ahalia Group of Institutions added colour to the programme through his felicitation address. Inaugural address and guest lecture was delivered by the chief guest Prof.V.K.Damodaran. Through his inspirational words the chief guest made the students and faculties aware of the importance of energy management. Various information regarding energy audits were shared along with his personal experiences in different fields. All the students from first year to final year of Electrical and Electronics Engineering department attended the inaugural ceremony. The programme came to an end by 11.45 am, with vote of thanks.
