B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering (2014-18)

The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was started in the year 2012 and offers a UG Programme (B.Tech.) in Electronics and Communication Engineering, is affiliated to the University of Calicut and Kerala Technological University(KTU)S. The department has a team of committed faculty members who are not only well qualified but are also backed by rich industrial / research / teaching experience. Quality and growth is the motto of the department. The programmes are developed to provide the student with depth and breadth of knowledge in Engineering Science and Engineering Design. Department also emphazise the development of non-technical skills such as communication and team work. .


To be a Centre of learning and research to produce competent engineers with social commitment and innovative skills.

Programme Educational Objectives

PEO1 – Graduates will be trained to have a successful career in Electronics and Communication Engineering.

PEO2 – Graduates will be capable of designing,fabricating and testing electronic products.

PEO3 – Graduates will apply knowledge and analytical skills to solve real-life technical problems.

Programme Outcomes

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions. .

Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Professional Technical Society


The department is associated with professional technical society IETE which allows the students to improve and update their technical knowledge and personality development.

The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) is India's leading recognised professional society devoted to the advancement of Science and Technology of Electronics, Telecommunication & IT. Founded in 1953, it serves more than 60,000 members through various centres, whose number is 65, spread all over India and abroad. The Institution provides leadership in Scientific and Technical areas of direct importance to the national development and economy. Government of India has recognised IETE as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) and also notified as an educational Institution of national eminence. The objectives of IETE focus on advancing electro-technology. The IETE conducts and sponsors technical meetings, conferences, symposia, and exhibitions all over India, publishes technical journals and provides continuing education as well as career advancement opportunities to its members.

           The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering is well equipped with high end design and analysis laboratories which are used extensively by the students and faculty members for their curriculum and research activities.

Electronic Circuits/Analog Integrated Circuits laboratory enables the students to practically realize the Circuits they have learnt in the classrooms. This laboratory provides the fundamental knowledge about electronic circuits, Semiconductor devices, Op-amp ICs, Timer ICs, etc. Students are encouraged to design and implement circuits that can be used for their projects and other applications. DSP lab is to provide a basic understanding of elementary digital signal processing techniques through hardware and software experiments. The VLSI Circuit Design laboratory aims to produce trained professional manpower for the industry and to significantly contribute to research in the area of VLSI Design and Device Modeling. The VLSI Design Laboratory is to equip every student with VLSI Design with an in-depth understanding of Full-custom and Semi-custom IC Design The laboratory is equipped with the latest design tools and sophisticated hardware facilities. The experimental set up helps the students to design and test digital circuits in hardware using FPGAs and simulation analysis through software tools

Communication Engineering Lab provides hands-on exposure to the students in the area of communication system design. The Laboratory experiments are performed using discrete components and the students are designing circuits to implement different Modulation schemes used in communication.

Communication Systems Laboratory

Communication Systems laboratory is to reinforce basic knowledge of analog and digital modulation concepts using hardware implementations. The experiments are designed in such a way to study the performance of various modulation schemes, multiplexing and spread spectrum techniques Communication lab includes digital and analog communication which helps the students to get a practical exposure in microwave theory, modulation techniques and sampling process etc. The laboratory is equipped with various microwave test benches, CRO (Digital Storage Oscilloscope)

Microprocessor Laboratory is equipped with 8085, 8086 microprocessors and various interfacing cards, 8051 flash microcontroller and various interfacing devices. Paper Presentation

1. Ms. Tonur Aparna, Ms. Aswathy E and Ms. Aiswarya A R of S8 ECE has presented a paper titled EEG Based Emotion Recognition System in IETE student’s convention (ESC -2K18) on 17th February, 2018 held at IETE centre, Palakkad and won the First prize among the 64 participants from various technical institutions in and around Kerala.

2. Mr.Vishnu S and Mr. Rahul R of S8 ECE has presented a paper titled Zigbee Based Advanced Monitoring and Control of Atmospheric Conditionsin IETE student’s convention (ESC -2K18) on 17th February, 2018.

3. Greeshma Mohan, Greeshma, Mahitha M. Das of third year Electronics & Communication Engineering under the guidance of Ajin A. S.(AP/ECE) published a paper titled A Novel Design of Hybrid Renewable Energy Invertor in International Journal of Current Engineering and Scientific Research.

Inplant Training

1. The students of Department of Electronics and communication Engineering of Ahalia school of Engineering and Technology had undergone a one-week in-plant training at BSNL Palakkad from 23rd July 2018 to 28th July 2018. They were trained in the areas like Network modeling, GSM/ WIMAX networks, Tele communication networking, Broadband technologies, Evolution of 3G technologies, IP address, Optical fiber communication etc.

2. The students of Department of Electronics and communication had attended an in-plant training offered by Indian Telecom Industries Ltd, Palakkad from 11th June 2018 to 16th June 2018. The training was aimed at imparting knowledge on Manufacturing PCB and Testing, Planning and documentation, Customer Engineering, Plant Electrical Engineering and Industrial Engineering in order to improve the performance of the students.

3. The first year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering department had attended an internship at CODEMAC SOFTWARES, Calicut from 10th July 2018 to 18th July 2018. They were familiarized with the various Programming Terminologies, android studio app, Basics of Android App development, Programming Paradigm, Programming Paradigm, Script languages and Basics of C Language.

2. Aparna K, Archana N S, Athul.B, Megha Kalyan P M, Irene Boby, Shathri G, and Sriya P G of Second year ECE, won second prize for the project AGRIClutural MONITORING ROCKER BOGIE VEHICLE in the project competition conducted as a part of Zaaga 2.0 -Tech fest.

3. Sreevidya S, Pooja Viswam P M, Sonu S B, Nivedita K B,Amgitha M V and Hamna Nasser of Third year ECE won third prize for the project AGROBTEO in the project competition conducted as a part of Zaaga 2.0 -Tech fest.

Inauguration of Electronics and Communication Engineering Association - ERFINDERS 2018


Inauguration of ECE association was conducted on 11/10/18 and two days workshop was conducted by Mr.K.Kavin kumar (Asst.professor ,Kongu Engineering college) and Mr.Gavaskar K (Asst.professor ,Kongu Engineering college)on the topic electronic circuit design using Orcad.
